ProBar Cran Lemon Twister

ProBars are plant based cold packed food bars that contain ~360 calories. Most of them contain a blend of fruits, nuts, berries, and even a dash of chocolate. What separates ProBar from other food bars in my mind is their great taste, the number of calories they contain, and their price.

ProBars cost $3.30 each which seems like a lot but when compared with similar competing bars they just provide more nutrition in their ingredients. Years ago I would eat granola based bars with raisins or chocolate chips and it got the job done but I would have to eat two or even three over the course of a hike to stay feeling full. Another benefit of the ingredients in ProBars are that they cleanse the digestive system, I always feel good after eating them (despite the fact that they contain so many nuts), most of them also contain flax and other oils which aid in digestion.

ProBars were awarded Health Magazine’s ”Best In Food” award in both 2008 and 2009. They provide a long shelf life without the use of preservatives. According to their website bars contain “well-balanced fat content with essential fatty acids, poly- and mono-saturated and unsaturated fats which help curb endless food cravings” (I can attest to this, I always feel full and good after one bar). More from the site:

  • Made with organic ingredients, this all-natural bar is blended, not baked, to retain the highest level of vital nutrients and preserve taste.
  • With over 15 whole foods, these 100% vegan bars combine the tantalizing tastes of whole grain, fruits and nuts for a truly unique flavor experience.
  • PROBAR also requires less hydration to break down than other bars because of the perfect balance of protein and sodium.
  • Low protein ratio is ideal for lasting endurance; low glycemic-index foods keep insulin spiking to a minimum, preventing fast sugar drops (bonking).
  • Bars make an excellent meal replacement option, providing slow, clean-burning energy throughout the day; combine with fruit or a glass of soy milk.
